Post lavae analysis - Microscopic

APPENDEGE

The appendages and rostrum of the post larvae should be of normal shape, and free of erosions or black discoloration. Deformed PL is generally regarded as being unsuitable for stocking. Here the degree of deformity is graded in to thee categories-normal, slightly deformed and severely deformed.

  • Head region of PL with no deformities or necrosis of the appendages

  • Head region of PL with bent antennae. This is thought to be due to in complete molting one or several molts

  • Pleopods (swimming legs) of PL with no deformities

  • Slight deformity of pleopods due to necrosis (red discoloured area)

  • Moderate/ severe deformity of pleopods due to necrosis
